WINDSOR – Lorene Butler Johnson, 90 of Windsor, Virginia, passed away in her home on Monday, Dec. 26, 2022. She was born to the late Horace Harrison Butler and Frankie Mae Moore Butler of Windsor. Lorene attended Windsor High School where she met her husband, Winston Raymond Johnson. They were married for almost 60 years prior to his passing in 2006.

Lorene was a devoted wife, mother, homemaker and bookkeeper. She was past president and honorary member of the Woman’s Club of Windsor where she gave countless hours chairing kitchen committees to serve meals to other local organizations. In addition to her civic duties, she was a faithful and steadfast member of Windsor Baptist Church serving in the WMU as president and member, as well as leading various circle groups. She served as the church treasurer for many years and held roles on numerous committees.

Hobbies were abundant in her life. She loved putting together puzzles and took pride in having them framed to share with close friends and family. Lorene did not just sew but was a seamstress. Until her later years in life, she made every stitch of clothing she wore for herself and her family. As a child she developed a love for reading and that continued until the last days of her life. She was always found reading for hours on end. Cooking and baking were also important to her. She loved family meals and cooking for others. In 2019, she won the King Arthur Baking Contest for her prize-winning pecan pie. When she was in the kitchen, she would have her beloved bluegrass music playing in the background.
