Riverdale Elementary School recently announced the arrival of its new Inchy’s Bookworm Vending Machine.

“Thank you to International Paper for funding the grant that allowed RES the opportunity to purchase the custom-wrapped book vending machine,” school officials said in an RES news release.

The machine is customized in school colors, featuring the RES mascot “Charlie the Cardinal,” and proudly states, “Readers are Leaders.” The machine will be used to provide a positive reward-based system that motivates students to read by using a modern, interactive way of selecting new book titles. 

Using an earned token, students will be able to purchase a book of choice from the vending machine. The student in turn gets to keep the selected book. 

“Our students are very excited to earn tokens for our book vending machine,” RES officials said.

The officials also expressed gratitude to last year’s fifth graders for participating in the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the vending machine.
