MURFREESBORO, North Carolina – Larry Wilson Futrell, 79, passed away peacefully at home on Dec. 17, 2022.

Mr. Futrell was born in Northampton County, North Carolina on Sept. 18, 1943, a son of the late Kelly C. and Margaret Futrell. Larry was employed at Union Camp Corporation on Feb. 14, 1965. He started off in the sheet finishing plant and ended his career as a welder in the maintenance department. Union Camp was sold to International Paper Company where he retired after 40 years of service. He was an active member of Murfreesboro Baptist Church, where he participated in the choir and Sunday school.

Larry lived a very active life. Some of the things he enjoyed included playing guitar with the Potecasi Band, riding horses with his grandchildren and fishing with his brother-in-law and friends. He also enjoyed many sports, but especially traveling to see his granddaughters play soccer. Larry enjoyed painting, karate, traveling with his wife Earlene and friends, and spending time with his family at Lake Gaston.

Besides his parents, Larry was preceded in death by his siblings, Kelly C. Mann, Jr., Roy Chestine Futrell, Rebecca F. Edwards and Susie F. Williams; his mother-in-law, Nellie B. Shewbart; and nephews, Roy C. Futrell Jr., and Christopher Edwards.

Left to cherish his memory is his devoted wife, Earlene S. Futrell; his son, Jeffrey Futrell and wife, Debra of Wilson, North Carolina; two granddaughters, Georgia Pearson Futrell and Emilee W. Futrell of Wilson, North Carolina; brother Robert M. Futrell and wife, Dianne P. Futrell and sister-in-law, Patti S. Llewellyn and husband, Jeff. Also surviving are nieces and nephews, Terry, Futrell, Tina Futrell, Gay Whitley, Renee Jilcott, Kim Ricks, Lisa Futrell, Tammy Bowen, Kelly Lockhart, Margaret Hill, Brian Edwards, Cliff Futrell and Robbie Futrell.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, Dec. 20 from 6:30 – 8 p.m. at Garrett-Sykes Memorial Chapel in Murfreesboro, North Carolina.

A celebration of life service will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 21, at 11 a.m. at the Murfreesboro Baptist Church, Murfreesboro, North Carolina, with the Rev. Dr. Rick Bailey, officiating. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Murfreesboro.
