Franklin Police arrest attempted murder suspect

Franklin Police, with assistance from the Southampton County Sheriff’s Office, arrested a Franklin resident Friday, Dec. 16, that they had previously identified as a suspect in an alleged incident involving a gun fired into an occupied vehicle Nov. 29.

A Franklin Police Department news release stated that on Friday, FPD detectives, assisted by the sheriff’s office, conducted a search warrant in the 20000 block of General Thomas Highway in Boykins.  

Police stated that as a result of the search, Deshawn Diamonte Patillo was located and apprehended. 

According to the release, Patillo was arrested on the charges of attempted murder, shooting into an occupied vehicle, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, threatening to kill, reckless handling of a firearm, and assault and battery. 

He was transported to the Western Tidewater Regional Jail where he is being held without bond, police said Friday in the release.

A Nov. 30 FPD news release stated that on Nov. 29 at 6:54 p.m., police received a call for service in reference to a vehicle being struck by gunfire while being operated in the city of Franklin.

The release noted that responding officers and detectives of the FPD investigated the incident and identified Patillo, 22, of Franklin, as the alleged shooter.
