Windsor Vice Mayor Greg Willis to resign Dec. 31

The town of Windsor announced in a Tuesday, Dec. 14, news release that it was sad to report that Windsor Vice Mayor Greg Willis has tendered his resignation from the Windsor Town Council effective Dec. 31 due to ongoing health challenges.
The release noted that Willis has served on the council as either vice mayor or councilman for the past 14 years.
In a letter to Mayor Glyn T. Willis, Greg Willis stated that it was “with deepest regret” that he was tendering his resignation due to health issues, and he stated that it has been an honor and a pleasure to serve with the mayor and other council members.
“The position I have held for the past 14 years has taught me more than I could have hoped for,” he wrote. “I am truly appreciative for the opportunity to contribute to such a welcoming community.”
Town officials, in the release, noted that Willis’ “dedication to the position and contributions to the community are greatly appreciated and will be sorely missed.”
Windsor Town Manager William Saunders reported that it was after a closed session Tuesday evening that the council voted unanimously to authorize the distribution of the aforementioned news release to the public and to invite cover letters and resumés from town residents who may be interested in being appointed to fill the pending council seat vacancy.
This vacancy is in reference to a seat on the council as opposed to the position of vice mayor, the latter of which will likely already be reassigned to another council member by the time the individual appointed to the vacant seat is in place.
“The vice mayor position is one that is voted on by the members of council,” Saunders stated. “There will likely be a vote for a new vice mayor at the January meeting, while other reorganization and committee decisions are made.”
The release noted that those interested in serving in the council seat must be qualified voters in the town of Windsor and must provide a cover letter and resumé.
“Per the town charter, a vacancy on the Town Council shall be filled by appointment within 45 days of the vacancy,” officials stated in the release.
Cover letters and resumés can be hand-delivered or mailed to the town of Windsor at 8 E. Windsor Blvd., P.O. Box 307, Windsor, VA 23487 or emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org, the release stated.
Submissions must be received by the close of business Monday, Jan. 9, 2023, for consideration.
