The Franklin Police Department reported arresting a Franklin resident in connection with a fatal stabbing that took place Tuesday, Dec. 6, on Hayden Drive in Franklin.

An FPD news release stated that at 1:02 p.m. on Tuesday, the City of Franklin Emergency Communications Center received a call for service in reference to a stabbing in the 600 block of Hayden Drive. 

Responding officers and detectives of the FPD arrived on scene and discovered a 61-year-old female victim suffering from multiple stab wounds, police said. Officers and detectives rendered aid until relieved by Franklin Fire and Rescue. 

FPD officials stated that the victim was transported to Bon Secours Southampton Memorial Hospital where she died from her injuries. The victim has been transferred to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Norfolk.

“While rendering aid on scene, officers were advised the suspect was walking in the 2000 block of South Street,” FPD officials said in the release. “Officers arrived on scene and took the suspect into custody without further incident.” 

The suspect has been identified as Linwood Freeman, 54, from Franklin, the release stated. Police said Freeman has been charged with one count of second-degree murder and one count of attempted second-degree murder. 

The release noted Freeman has a bond hearing pending.

The FPD later provided information about a second victim in this incident. Police said it was a 64-year-old male Franklin resident who had a minor injury and refused medical treatment.

The investigation into this incident is ongoing. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.
