Heart of Gold Shelter held its second annual brunch for Domestic Violence Awareness Month on Saturday, Oct. 15, at Courtland Community Center. This year Heart of Gold Shelter honored and gave flowers to Maxine Nowline, who manages the Courtland Community Center. Nowline has been a respected peer of the community and mentor for Heart of Gold Shelter and has contributed faithfully. LaRhonda Mabry, CEO and founder of the shelter, told Nowline that God is very pleased with her serving his people. Pictured is Mabry, left, and Nowline. Those who are experiencing domestic violence, or who know someone who is, are encouraged to contact the Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-799-SAFE (7233) or www.TheHotline.org. They should feel free to contact Heart of Gold Shelter, as well, at 434-378-0900 or heartofgoldshelter@gmail.com or www.heartofgoldshelter.com.
