Southampton County saw the reelection Tuesday, Nov. 8, of Jackie M. Robertson Sr. as mayor of Boykins, as well as the election of several unopposed mayors in other Southampton towns and quite a few unopposed council members in those county localities.

As Friday, Nov. 25, all votes were being reported as having been counted in Southampton County among the unofficial results listed on the Virginia Department of Elections website.

In the Boykins mayoral election, Robertson received 170 votes to Nickolas Brian Zinn’s 29, and there were two write-in votes.

Robertson was Boykins’ first African American mayor when he was elected on Feb. 9, 2021.

“I am proud to be reelected and will continue to work for the citizens of Boykins,” he said.

The unopposed Southampton County town mayors winning this year included William Nick Kitchen in Capron (64 votes — 98.5% of the vote); Danny Roy Williams in Courtland (406 votes — 97.1%); Tara B. Kea in Ivor (130 votes — 95.6%); and Vanless D. “VD” Worrell in Newsoms (88 votes — 86.3%).

As of Nov. 15, the results of some of the town council member races within the county remained unknown, but those results will be published soon.
