McEachin wins reelection to 4th District

Incumbent Democrat A. Donald McEachin has been reelected to Virginia’s 4th Congressional District seat in the U.S. House of Representatives, according to the Associated Press, though Leon Benjamin Sr., the Republican challenger, carried Southampton County.
As of Friday, Nov. 25, with all votes listed as having been counted, the Virginia Department of Elections website was reporting unofficial results showing that Benjamin had received 1,628 votes (58.2%) in the county, while McEachin had received 1,166 votes (41.7%).
With 304 of 305 precincts reporting statewide as of Nov. 25, McEachin had 159,124 votes, or 64.9%, while Benjamin had 85,489, or 34.9%. There were 431 votes, statewide, for write-in candidates in the race.
McEachin has served in Virginia’s 4th Congressional District seat since 2017.
The Associated Press called the overall race for him shortly after 9 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 8.
