FRANKLIN – William Russell “Bill” Taylor, 97, went to be with the Lord on Nov. 15, 2022.

Bill was born in Nansemond County on July 3, 1925 to the late Russell and Eunice Byrd Taylor. He graduated from Holland High School and enlisted in the U.S. Navy. Bill served on a Navy ship in the Pacific during World War II and received an honorable discharge on June 17, 1946. Most of his life he did electrical and mechanical maintenance work and retired from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard. He was a member of Franklin Congregational Christian Church.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Eloise Rickman Taylor; two stepsons, Frank Rickman (Brenda) of Franklin and Grady Rickman (Dianne) of Ponca City, Oklahoma; two grandsons, Rob Rickman (Andrea) and Billy Rickman all of Franklin; two great-grandchildren, Emma and Mia Rickman of Franklin. He was predeceased by his five siblings and a grandson, Will Rickman.

A funeral service with military honors will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 21 in Wright Funeral Home with the Rev. James H. Hyatt Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens in Suffolk. The family will receive friends from 6 – 7 p.m. on Sunday in the funeral home and suggests that memorial donations be made to The Disabled American Veterans, 860 Dolwick Drive; Erlanger, KY 41018.
