The students and staff of Meherrin Elementary School enjoyed a special visit from the Newsoms Volunteer Fire Department earlier in October as they celebrated community helpers. 

A school news release noted that the students learned all about fire safety and how to call for help in the event of an emergency. The students also got to see the vehicles and equipment involved in fighting fires and caring for medical emergencies. 

The school extended thanks to the Newsoms VFD members for taking time out of their busy schedules to educate the students about their very important job within the community.
