The Southampton County Sheriff’s Office responded to a two-vehicle crash on Saturday afternoon, Oct. 29, on General Thomas Highway near Cross Keys Road that led to the death of a Franklin resident.

A sheriff’s office news release stated that at around 1:38 p.m. on Saturday, the agency received a call to respond to a motor vehicle accident with injuries. 

“The accident occurred when a motorcycle traveling west on General Thomas Highway collided with a Chevrolet Impala traveling east on General Thomas Highway; as the Impala turned left to exit the highway … the motorcycle was approaching that vehicle,” police said.

The release indicated that the driver of the motorcycle, Nikki Sledge, 54, of Franklin, succumbed to injuries while still receiving treatment at the scene of the accident.

No charges have been taken out at this time, police said, adding that the investigation into this incident continues.
