FOOTBALL

Isle of Wight Academy’s Jackson Cofer rushed for 149 yards in a losing effort as the Chargers varsity football team fell to Fredericksburg Christian School 50-7 Saturday night, Oct. 1, at Massaponax High School.

The host Eagles ran their record to a perfect 6-0; IWA fell to 0-4.

FCS has proven to be a lot for opponents to handle early in its 2022 campaign, averaging more than 200 yards per game rushing and passing. The Eagles were tied for first place in the first Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association Division II Poll on Sept. 27.

They were tied with Atlantic Shores Christian School, which defeated IWA in its first game of the season. IWA is ranked No. 5 in VISAA Division III.

The boys junior varsity squad finished second on a day that saw 14 personal records set.
