The city of Franklin announced on social media Wednesday afternoon, Sept. 28, that due to the forecasted weather for Friday, Sept. 30, and Saturday, Oct. 1, it has made the decision to cancel both the Food Truck Rodeo, planned for Friday, and the Franklin Fall Festival Street Fair, planned for Saturday.

“This decision was not taken lightly, as we understand the impacts that the event has on our community, vendors and business owners,” city officials stated in a Facebook post. “With the weather forecast consistently looking worse, we have made the decision to cancel for the safety of the participants and guests.”

Officials noted that while the event was advertised as rain or shine, they felt that none of the participants would be successful or safe in the weather that is expected, and indoor options were not viable. 

“We hope that the timing of this decision helps to prevent unnecessary preparations and to halt travel for anyone who may be visiting from out of town for the event,” officials stated.

There is no reschedule date, but the city will be adding the Food Truck Rodeo to its Spring Fest event in April. Officials encouraged citizens to mark their calendars for Friday, April 21, for the rodeo, and Saturday, April 22, for the Franklin Spring Fest Street Fair.

The next major event in the city will be the Franklin Cruise-In Finale, set for Saturday, Oct. 8, from 9 a.m.-3 p.m.

Other upcoming city events include the Downtown Trick or Treat from 5-8:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 27, and the Holiday Open House & Craft Fair from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 12.
