SUFFOLK – Doyle Gillis Sr., 86, passed away Sept. 10, 2022 in his home. Born in Collinwood, Tennessee, he was a son of the late Willie and Lessie Scott Gillis.

Doyle was a Navy veteran and a retired automobile mechanic. He was a member of VFW Post No. 4411.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Juanita Runyon Gillis; a daughter, Glynda D. Arrington of Suffolk; a son, Brigadier General Doyle Gillis Jr. of Lexington, South Carolina; a stepdaughter, Christine Dotson of Suffolk; a sister, Margie Blankenship of Alabama; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

A celebration of life with military honors will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 18 in VFW Post No. 4411, 3385 Beaverdam Road, Franklin, VA 23851. In lieu of flowers, make memorial donations to VFW Post 4411 Auxiliary.
