Franklin police investigate shooting of Isle of Wight resident

The Franklin Police Department is investigating a shooting within the city after receiving a report of one on Saturday evening, Sept. 3, and then coming in contact with a juvenile from Isle of Wight County with a gunshot wound.

An FPD news release stated that at about 7:45 p.m. Saturday, officers were dispatched to the 300 block of South College Drive for a report of an individual having been shot. Upon arrival, it was learned the victim had left the area and was in the 1800 block of Rosewood Avenue.

Officers responded to the victim’s location, and contact was made with a 17-year-old resident of  Isle of Wight County who had sustained a gunshot wound to his lower leg, police said. Officers initiated an investigation and determined the shooting occurred in the 1900 block of Harris Street.

The victim was initially treated at Bon Secours – Southampton Medical Center and was then  transported to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, the release stated.

Police noted that this investigation is ongoing, and additional information will be released as it becomes available.
