FRANKLIN – Loretta Drake Faison, 84, passed away Aug. 27, 2022, at her home, with her loving husband by her side. She was born in Newsoms, Virginia on Sept. 25, 1937, a daughter of the late Genie and Mary “Lizzie” Drake. Loretta was also predeceased by her daughter, Tonya K. Faison, her sister Marion D. Poole and brother-in-law, Dick C. Poole.

Loretta graduated from Newsoms High School in 1955, then on Sept. 11 of the same year, married the love of her life, Mills B. Faison Jr. They would have celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary on Sept. 11, 2022.

Her favorite job in life was that of being a mother to her four daughters. She was also proud to become an entrepreneur later in life, opening Newsoms Drive-In. Her other loves in life were church, singing in the choir, playing cards with family and friends and dancing with Pepa (Mills).

Drake (Margie); her grandchildren, Brandon Tayloe (Margaux Spiegel), Courtney Tayloe Bogese (David), Jenna Story Lowe (Cecil), Heather Story Blythe (Clay), Leah Story Futrell (Noah), Ashlynn Kay Pearce and Abby Kay Pearce; her great-grandchildren, Finnegan Barrett Lowe, Brixton Elliott Futrell, Landon Cecil Lowe and soon-to-be Baby Boy Blythe. She also had many loving nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday Aug. 31 in Franklin Baptist Church with Dr. Charles Qualls, the Rev. Steve Gibson and the Rev. James Hyatt officiating. A reception will follow the service in the church. A private graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m. at Poplar Spring Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Franklin Baptist Church or The Alzheimer’s Association.
