Two Franklin City School Board members with terms ending June 30 were lauded for their service to the education of city’s public schools’ students at a June 16 meeting.

Dr. Andrea Shelton was appointed to represent Ward 5 on July 1, 2019, and her term ended Thursday, June 30, while Amy L. Phillips, who represented Ward 2, was appointed on Dec. 20, 2016, and had been serving as board chair since 2020. Her term also expired June 30.

An FCPS news release said Phillips read the proclamation especially created for Shelton, and Ward 1 Board Member and Vice Chair Robert Holt read the one created for Phillips.

“It’s been an honor and a pleasure to serve you, and I wish you Godspeed and blessings and prayers, and continue to grow and forward motion and forward movement, and continue to make Franklin great,” Dr. Shelton said afterward.

For her part, Phillips said of her own term, “I am grateful … it’s never been about politics with anyone up here. It’s always been about the kids. Nothing else matters. We always put that first. We want the best for the students, and we want the best for the staff. It has been an honor to be in the trenches with every single one of you.”
