A single-vehicle crash in the early morning of Saturday, July 2, in Franklin resulted in the death of a city resident, according to a Virginia State Police news release.
VSP, which is investigating the crash, reported that it occurred at 4:45 a.m. Saturday on Route 687/Delaware Road, approximately a hundred feet north of Willis Road.
A 1997 Yamaha Royal Star motorcycle was traveling south on Delaware Road when it came into a curve, crossed the centerline and ran off the left side of the roadway, the release stated. The motorcycle struck a ditch, and its rider was ejected.
The motorcyclist, Roberto M. Beltrami Jr., 26, of Franklin, died at the scene, police said. They noted that he was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, and neither speed nor alcohol were contributing factors.
The crash remains under investigation.
