A Courtland man died Friday, June 17, after being involved in a single-vehicle crash in Southampton County.

The Southampton County Sheriff’s Office stated in a news release that deputies responded to a single-vehicle accident in the 16000 block of Wakefield Road. They observed an overturned 1999 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck.

Police said that the driver and only occupant of the vehicle, Cassidy Creech, 26, of Courtland, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Creech was ejected from the vehicle during the crash, the release noted, adding that neither speed nor alcohol appeared to be factors in the crash.

Maj. Camden Cobb stated in an email interview that Creech was not wearing a seat belt.

He also noted that this case will be pending a report from the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
