Franklin High School has honored Ale R. Massenburg as its Teacher of the Year for 2022.

A Franklin City Public Schools press release continued by stating that Massenburg, who is the lead school professional counselor, has accumulated 24 years in education, with 18 years as a school counselor and another six as a teacher.

Asked about why she chose education as a career, Massenburg said, “I went into teaching because I had an innate desire to formulate the lives of children and to help them learn in different modalities. I transitioned to counseling to help students who were often left behind and not effectively counseled due to their economic and community status. When I was in high school, I felt I did not receive the adequate help I needed due to my economic status, even though I graduated in the top 10% of the class and a year earlier than my peers. My goal as a counselor is to help all students but especially the ones who are most often overlooked.”

What has kept her active in education is apparent. 

“My students and their success motivate me,” she said.

Regarding the Teacher of the Year honor, Massenburg said, “This recognition helps me to continue to serve my students and parents to the best of my ability.”
