The Southampton County School Board unanimously approved an academic calendar for the 2022-23 school year during its Monday, April 11, meeting.

Southampton County Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Gwendolyn P. Shannon said the 2022-23 academic calendar she was presenting was very similar to the calendars the school division has had in the past.

“We do have 182 instructional days,” she said. “However, this upcoming year, I’m recommending that four of those days be set aside as virtual instructional days, and the calendar also represents 194 teacher days.”

Board Chair Dr. Deborah Goodwyn noted that the 12-month contract is a separate document from what Shannon was discussing.

“This is the academic calendar that’s used by teachers and other 200-day employees,” Goodwyn said.

She opened the floor to questions or comments from the board on the proposed academic calendar, and there were none. Greg Scott made the motion to approve, seconded by Christopher Smith Sr., and the unanimous vote immediately followed.
