FRANKLIN – Nancy Clarice Crutchlow Best Coley, 90, passed away April 3, 2022. Born on April 1, 1932, she was a daughter of the late Irving Burruss Crutchlow and Lucille Virginia Blankenship Crutchlow. She was also predeceased by her first husband, Marvin Zeno Best and her second husband, Leroy Leonard “Jack” Coley; a daughter, Julie Benton; a grandson, Graham Hamic; her twin sister, Nather Gray and sisters, Lucille “Echo” Hagan and Lena Ann Ellis; and a brother, I.B. Crutchlow Jr.

Nancy was born in Lynchburg, raised in Nansemond County and was a graduate of Holland High School. She was a former president of Z&M Best Logging Inc., which purchased the first Franklin Logger ever sold. She was also a former office manager for VDOT. She was a member of Franklin Congregational Christian Church and the Franklin Christian Women’s Club.

Left to cherish her memory are two daughters, Lorraine Musselman (Brian) and Jane Bryant (Andy); two sons, Marvin Z. Best Jr (Faith) and Christopher Coley (Katherine); two sisters, Dorothy Crutchlow and Susan Stewart; three brothers-in-law, Jan Ellis, Peter Stewart and Hugh Gray; nine grandchildren, Brooks Hamic White, Laura Musselman, Hudson Bryant, Jamie Bryant, Forrest Best, Zachary Best, Sarah Best, Caroline Coley and Matthew Coley; five great-grandchildren, Julian Sanchez, Titus Pope, Claire White, Winston White III and Camden Bryant; and a host of nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, April 5, 2022 in Southampton Memorial Park with the Rev. James H. Hyatt Jr. officiating.
