Franklin High School winter and spring student-athletes were recently recognized for their outstanding achievements in girls basketball and boys track and field, respectively.

For girls basketball, sophomore Roshanda Hoskie was named to the All-Tri-Rivers District Second Team and the All-Region 1B Second Team. Sophomore Ariana Picot made the all-district second team and the all-region first team.

Hoskie finished the season with per-game averages of 10 points, 10 rebounds, 3.3 blocks and one steal.

Picot played 14 out of 20 games before being sidelined with an ankle injury. She finished the season with per-game averages of 12 points, three rebounds, one steal and one assist.

Both girls, who were coached by Dennis Sumblin, are also honor students.

For boys track and field, sophomore Kaden Bailey, who is also coached by Sumblin, recently received some overdue recognition for his 2021 achievements. As a freshman, he was the 2021 Franklin High School Outdoor Track MVP. He finished fifth in the boys 200-meter hurdles at the 2021 Virginia High School League Class 1 Outdoor Track and Field State Championships, and he also ran the last leg for the boys 4-by-100-meter relay team that placed second in the state.

Bailey is the returning 4-by-100-meter anchor for Franklin’s 2022 boys outdoor track and field team.
