A two-vehicle crash on Camp Parkway on Friday, March 25, was allegedly followed by the driver of one of the vehicles assaulting the other, with the entire incident sending two people to the hospital with injuries.

Fenton Bryant Holt III

The Southampton County Sheriff’s Office reported in a March 28 press release that at approximately 3:39 p.m. on Friday, deputies were called to respond to a motor vehicle accident in the 30000 block of Camp Parkway.

After law enforcement officers investigated, it was determined that a white Chevrolet pickup left the roadway and struck a black Volkswagen sedan sitting in a driveway, the release continued, adding that the driver of the pickup then allegedly exited the vehicle, approached the adult male driver of the Volkswagen and struck him in the face multiple times until an off-duty deputy intervened prior to other law enforcement arriving.

The release stated that the pickup driver who allegedly assaulted the Volkswagen driver was identified as Fenton Bryant Holt III, 40, of Franklin.

The sheriff’s office noted in the release that Holt has been charged with two counts of felony aggravated malicious wounding and one count of misdemeanor assault, driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, destruction of property, and reckless driving.

Holt was arrested by deputies without further incident and is being held in the Southampton County Jail without bond, police stated.

The release added that the adult male driver and an adult female passenger of the second vehicle were both flown to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital for treatment of what appeared to be serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

The sheriff’s office thanked the Virginia State Police, which also responded to assist with this incident.
