Franklin City Manager Amanda C. Jarratt announced at the March 14 City Council meeting that the proposed redistricting maps for the city have been placed at key city locations for review by the public, and dates for public hearings and a council decision on the matter were set.

Jarratt stated in her written report to the council that the proposed city redistricting maps had been placed at Franklin City Hall, the Franklin Police Department, the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center, the Ruth Camp Campbell Memorial Library and the James L. Camp Jr. Family YMCA.

She shared with the council during the meeting that she was planning for its April 11 meeting to be when the public hearing on the proposed redistricting maps takes place. 

She also shared an overall timeline she had planned for council and public consideration of the matter.

“We will be scheduling a time, which we will advertise, to have staff stay late one night to answer any questions, and then we’ll have the public hearing, have an opportunity to consider and weigh out that public feedback and then adopt on April 25,” she said. “If that’s OK, then I’ll get an ad placed in the paper, and we’ll publish it on social media.”

Ward 3 Councilman Gregory McLemore said, “Could we have a second public hearing the night that we do adoption? Because in the past we’ve always had more than one public hearing on that issue.”

Franklin Mayor Frank M. Rabil said that would be fine.

“OK, so I will take out an ad, and then we’ll put it on our social media that there will be the first public hearing on April 11 and then a second public hearing on April 25 with intended action,” Jarratt said.
