NEWSOMS – Mary Jean “Jeanne” Harness, 65, passed away unexpectedly on March 17, 2022 in her home. Born in Morgantown, West Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Don and Edna Johnson. She was also predeceased by a grandbaby, Savannah; two brothers, Richard and Dale Johnson; and her stepmother, Shirley Jean Johnson.

Jeanne was an accountant for Southampton County Utility Department. She was a life member and former president of the VFW Post No. 4411 Auxiliary and was the first president to usher men into the women’s auxiliary.

Left to cherish her memory is her husband of 44 years, Robert Donovan Harness; two daughters, Dinah Kreitz (Bob) and Jennifer Patterson (Mark); two brothers, William Johnson and Kenneth Lee Johnson; and seven grandchildren, Ali, Shane, Hayden, James, Skylar, Bruce and Kaylee.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, March 25 at the VFW Post No. 4411, 3385 Beaverdam Road in Franklin with Dr. John Robbins officiating.
