The students in Julie Belter’s Spanish IV class at Southampton High School recently learned about Latin American culture and cuisine through a unique project.

A school press release noted that the students selected a Latin American country. They researched the country to select a popular dish from that country and culture. The poster art of their project-based learning explains about their country and their dish.

The students had to include the recipe in Spanish, as well as background information about the dish that answered questions like “How was it created?”; “Why is it popular?”; and “Is there a funny story behind the dish?”

The students were tasked with recreating their dish. They had creative freedom to use anything except real food. Modeling clay, paint, foam, sponges and construction paper were the items used the most.
