The penultimate Sunday in the Franklin Department of Parks and Recreation’s Winter Youth Basketball League unfolded March 6, with the 9-to-11-year-old division Celebration Church squad successfully defending its undefeated record in a doubleheader, among other exciting action.

The day at the Hayden Village Center Gymnasium started off in the 6-to-8-year-old division with team Celebration Church (1-6) playing its last doubleheader of the season. It fell short in game one to team Smart Beginnings (3-3) and also in game two to team Enviva (5-2) in a couple of very close games.

The 9-to-11-year-old division was spectacular as well. Team Celebration Church (7-0) remained undefeated for the season as it collected wins in both of its games, first playing team Smart Beginnings (1-5) and then team Enviva (2-5).

The final games of the night had the crowd fired up for the 12-to-14-year-old division. Team Celebration Church (6-1) picked up two wins in its final doubleheader; the squad topped team Smart Beginnings (2-4) and team Enviva (2-5).

The final regular season games of the year are set to be played this week as team Smart Beginnings will take on its last doubleheaders in all three age divisions.

The 6-8 division was set to play on Tuesday, March 8, at 6 and 7 p.m. The 9-11 division will play on Wednesday, March 9, at 6:30 and 7:30 p.m., followed by the 12-14 division on Thursday, March 10, at 6:30 and 7:30 p.m.

The final gameday of the season will take place on Sunday, March 13, beginning at 1 p.m. for playoffs to determine the champions from each division.

“We hope to see you all in attendance at the Hayden Village Center Gymnasium as we wrap up our final week of the City of Franklin Department of Parks and Recreation Winter Youth Basketball League,” Athletic Programs Specialist Andrew Lowe said.
