Woman allegedly flees police in Ivor, apprehended after search

Police say that a woman in a speeding vehicle fled a Southampton County Sheriff’s Office deputy in Ivor on March 1 and was later taken into custody, receiving multiple charges.

A press release from the sheriff’s office stated that at approximately 7:30 a.m. on March 1, a Southampton County deputy attempted to stop a vehicle for speeding on Broadwater Road. Police said the vehicle then tried to evade the deputy, crashed on Browns Avenue and the driver fled into the woods.

Law enforcement surrounded the area, and K-9 teams were deployed, the release noted, adding that the driver, Leah Mary Lepley, 28, of Newport News, was taken into custody without further incident.

The sheriff’s office stated that items in Lepley’s vehicle were found to be stolen, and that matter is still under investigation.

She has been charged with felony elude, speeding and reckless driving, the release noted.

“We would like to thank the Isle of Wight County Sheriff’s Office and the Virginia State Police for their assistance with this incident,” Southampton County Sheriff’s Office officials stated.
