The Western Tidewater Health District (WTHD) announced Feb. 20 that the Southampton Health Department was returning to full clinical services starting Feb. 22, and the city of Franklin announced on social media March 1 that the Franklin City Health Department will be reopening March 7, conducting full services.

The Southampton Health Department is found inside the Southampton County Office Center located at 26022 Administration Center Drive in Courtland, and the Franklin City Health Department is located at 200 Fairview Drive in Franklin.

The announcement from WTHD highlighted the services that Southampton’s department offers, including family planning, immunizations including COVID-19 vaccinations, sexual transmitted infections and tuberculosis risk assessments. The district statement noted that the Southampton Health Department was not accepting walk-ins at the time, but people should call 757-653-3040 to make an appointment or for any inquiries.

The Franklin City Health Department’s normal location has been closed due to renovations. The city’s March 1 social media post stated that starting March 7, the department’s hours of operation will be Monday-Friday from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Clinical services are by appointment only. The phone number to contact the department is 757-562-6109.

City officials added in the post, “We would like to thank the community for their patience and understanding during the inconvenience while the renovations were being done and invite each of you to come and see the refreshed building. We are happy to be back open to service our community.”

The WTHD indicated Feb. 20 that the Franklin health department’s services would be held at the Southampton department while the city department’s normal location was closed, but the district also noted, even then, that the update on the Franklin department’s reopening would be coming soon.
