FRANKLIN – Delbert Eugene O’Meara, 82, born and raised in Loudoun County, Virginia, passed away on Jan. 30, 2022 in Charlottesville, Virginia. He was the son of the late Stonewall Beauregard O’Meara and Genevieve Spinks O’Meara. He was also predeceased by his brother, Paul O’Meara Sr.; first wife, Elsie Duck O’Meara and wife, Irene Newsome O’Meara.

Delbert first attended Ferrum Junior College, then moved on to Virginia Tech where he earned both his bachelor’s degree in Animal Science and his master’s degree in Agricultural Education. This led to his long and celebrated career with Virginia Cooperative Extension. Throughout his tenure with Virginia Cooperative Extension, Delbert was a leading force behind many 4-H youth development programs and held positions in both the Virginia and National County Agents Associations. Even in retirement he continued to be a supporter of Virginia Tech and the programs of Virginia Cooperative Extension. He was a Distinguished Benefactor in Virginia Tech’s Ut Prosim Society and was inducted into the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences Hall of Fame.

Left to cherish his memory are his sister-in-law, Judith O’Meara; nephew, Paul O’Meara Jr. (Melissa); great-nephew, Rhys; great-niece, Harper and special friend, Elizabeth Payne.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 10 in Burdette Baptist Church with Pastor Joe Poe officiating. The church is located at 35490 Burdette Church Road in Franklin. urial will be private.
