Thomas Helm Jones Jr.

FRANKLIN – Tom Jones, 91, passed away on Jan. 30, 2022 after a long and courageous battle with Parkinson’s Disease. A native of Norfolk, Virginia, he was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Helm Jones and Sarah Boren Jones; son-in-law, Wayne Beale and daughter, Elaine Byrum Herring. Tom graduated from Maury High School in Norfolk and attended Randolph Macon College. He retired from Dillard Paper Co. (formerly Old Dominion Paper) with 32 years of service.

He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Smithfield, enjoyed sailing and boating and was in the Coast Guard Reserve. Tom was a long time member of the Tidewater Antique Car Club and the Antique Automobile Club of America and a former member of Suburban Kiwanis Club in Norfolk, Norfolk Yacht and Country Club, Bennetts Creek Ruritan Club in Suffolk and Cedar Point Club in Suffolk.

Tom is survived by his wife of 47 years, Priscilla Riddick Jones; children, Thomas Helm Jones III (Lin) of Norfolk, Mary Stewart Albertson (Douglas) of Richmond, Sarah Jones Beale of Zuni, Linda Byrum Warren (Glenn) of Gates, North Carolina and Daniel Winfred Byrum (Cathy) of Gates, North Carolina; son-in-law, Ronald Herring of Gates, North Carolina; 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. The family would like to give a special thanks to his dedicated caregiver of many years, Flo Turner.

A private service will be held at Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens in Suffolk. Sturtevant Funeral Home, Bennetts Creek Chapel is handling arrangements.
