CAPRON – Erma Dale Williams Joyner, 98, widower of Charles LaGrange “Charlie” Joyner Sr., passed away on Jan. 25, 2022 in her home with her family by her side. Born and raised in Southampton County, she was a daughter of the late Arthur Grover Williams and Fannie Mae Joyner Williams. She was also predeceased by a son, Charles L. “Granger” Joyner Jr.; two sisters, Daphne Williams Vaughan Dunn and Leona Williams Davis; and four brothers, Arthur Clifton Williams, Sidney Thomas Williams, Dr. David Collins “D.C.” Williams Sr. and Gene Wesley Williams.

Erma was a retired postmaster for the Capron Post Office and a member of Capron United Methodist Church. She was an active part of the Capron community and served on the town council for many years. Full of spunk and energy and one to have never met a stranger, Erma, who was also known as Ma Dale to so many, was a wonderful wife, sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend to all.

Left to cherish her memory are two daughters, Carolyn J. Nurney and Charlene J. Davis (Tommy); a son, Wesley Grover Joyner (Kay); a special family member, Mike Lewis and his children, Michelle, Rebecca and David Lewis; 10 grandchildren, Christy Boyce (Dylan), Charles L.”C.J.” Joyner III (Sarah), Henry Nurney (Heather), Randy Nurney (Missy), Joanne Bryant (Tony), Stephanie Plunkett (Daniel), Kimberly Pittman (Bruce), Susan Fowler (Travis), Robert Joyner (Allie) and Stephen Joyner (Lauren); 18 great-grandchildren, Caleigh and Camden Gray, Austin Turner, Marissa, Elizabeth and Jenna Nurney, Dale and Renee Bryant, Ryan and Jacqueline Plunkett, Tyler and Olivia Pittman, Jake and Ian Fowler, Brylee and Asher Joyner, Waverly and Addee Joyner; a daughter-in-law, Linda Joyner; and two sisters-in-law, Flora Ann Williams and Zeannette “Topsy” Williams.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 28 in Wright Funeral Home with Pastor Ron Carr officiating. Burial will follow in Capron Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the funeral home and suggests that memorial donations be made to Capron Methodist Church or any favorite charity.

The family would like to give a special thanks to Kindred Hospice, especially Angie and Ebony, for their kindness given to Erma.
