Franklin City Public Schools and Southampton County Public Schools have announced they will be closed Friday due to inclement weather and will also be canceling some activities and programs that had been set for Thursday.

In a press release, FCPS noted that in anticipation of the forecast for snow starting on Friday, the decision has been made to close for that day, and there will be no virtual instruction.

The School Nutrition Department and the Transportation Department will be delivering a multiple-day meal kit on Thursday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., the release continued. Meals will be distributed via a clearly marked FCPS bus.

“The bus will stop at the same intersection that your child boards the bus daily,” officials stated. “Breakfast and lunch will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis.”

The Franklin City School Board had already announced on Wednesday that its meeting scheduled for Thursday would be canceled.

Other FCPS cancellations include any after-school activities that were planned for Thursday, as well as any weekend athletic events.

Southampton County Public Schools announced on its website that all of its schools, offices and buildings will be closed Friday due to inclement weather.

SCPS also noted that all after-school activities and elementary after-school care programs are canceled Thursday due to diminishing weather conditions having a potential negative impact on road conditions.
