CHESAPEAKE – Emma L. Harris Mayfield of Chesapeake, suddenly departed this life on January 6, 2022 in Chesapeake Regional Medical Center. She was born to Betty Sue Little Lawrence and Garnett Harris in Newsoms on Feb. 19, 1933.

Emma was a member of New First Baptist Taylorsville in Portsmouth. During her working years she was a loyal licensed practical nurse.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon P. Mayfield; brothers, Russell Harris and Harvey James Harris. Emma is survived by two sons, Vernon Mayfield Jr. and wife, Florence, Alfred R. Mayfield and his wife, Bridgett of Emporia; one daughter, Hope M. Sawyer and husband, Gregory; six grandchildren. Vernon L. Mayfield, Gregory B. Mayfield, Timothy L. Mayfield, Nakita McBeth, Shakia Mayfield and Monté McBeth; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild, nieces, nephews and cousins.

A public viewing will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday from 2 – 6 p.m. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, Jan. 13, at 1 p.m. at St. Paul United Church of Christ Cemetery, 28301 Handsom Road, Franklin with Pastor A. Paul Paige delivering the message; the Rev. J.J. Ferguson is pastor. Masks are required at all services. Service provided by the professional and caring staff of Wm. M.
