FRANKLIN – Virginia Lee Whitley “Tootie” Wade, 81, widow of George Thomas Wade Jr., passed away Dec. 29, 2021 in Southern Virginia Regional Medical Center. Born in Franklin on Feb. 27, 1940, she was a daughter of the late Fletcher Lee Whitley and Amy Lillian Branch Whitley. She was also predeceased by two sisters, Flossie Loftin and Gertrude Grossman and two brothers, Fletcher Nurney Whitley and Willie Whitley.

Tootie was a graduate of Franklin High School and retired from Southampton Pediatrics. She had an outgoing personality, loved people and had never met a stranger. Tootie enjoyed spending time at the Outer Banks for most all of her life and befriended many of the local people.

She was a member of Franklin Baptist Church.

Left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Lynn Wade Rollings (Glenn Porter); her son, George Michael Wade (Nerisa); five grandchildren, Matthew S. Rollings (Ashley), Lindsey Wade, Dylan Wade (Bekah), Joshua Wade (Shaelynn) and Rachel Leix (Michael); and her beloved pet, Tilly.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 3, 2022 in Wright Funeral Home with Pastor David Dillon officiating. Burial will be private.
