It has been 40 years, and retired, original servicemen from Battery B 1-11 are still together and there for each other, recently gathering to commemorate Veterans Day 2021. Group Chaplain Demetreious Mathews said, “Every year for the last 20 years, we have been getting together at Applebee’s, but this year, being that Edward (Pierce) had had an accident, we nominated to go to his house and spend Veterans Day with him.” As seen in the group photos, joining Pierce, who is pictured lying down, were Wyndel Goodwyn, Earnest Freeman, Mathews, Marland Pope, Earnest Spratly and Jovan Stith. When Riverside Elementary School was celebrating Veterans Day, Mathews’ granddaughter, Tiana Mathews, asked him to wear his uniform, which he did, as seen in the photo of him standing with her in front of the school. Mathews is also pictured separately with Franklin Mayor Frank M. Rabil.
