Heart of Gold Shelter hosted its first Domestic Violence Awareness Brunch on Oct. 16 at Courtland Community Center. The theme was “Love Shouldn’t Hurt.” Five speakers spoke about their knowledge of domestic violence and their personal stories about overcoming domestic violence. Heart of Gold Shelter is a 501c3 non-profit organization that was established on May 18, 2020. Its mission is to foster economic independence for women as they transition out of the shelter and into the workforce by providing job attire and the necessary tools for job readiness, in addition to other resources. Heart of Gold Shelter’s goal one day is to create a safe space to accommodate women who need these services.
