Police investigate suspicious death in Isle of Wight

The Isle of Wight County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a death it discovered the afternoon of Oct. 4, and investigators believe circumstances of a suspicious nature exist.

A sheriff’s office news release stated that at approximately 1:23 p.m. on Oct. 4, the Isle of Wight County 911 center received a call concerning an unresponsive male in a residence in the 13000 block of Bethany Church Road. 

The release stated that a neighbor was at that location to cut the grass for the male who resides in the home. That neighbor, when attempting to contact the homeowner, made the call to 911, police said.

Upon the arrival of sheriff’s office personnel, 62-year-old Donald Clarke was found deceased in the home, the release stated, noting that investigators believe circumstances of a suspicious nature exist. 

Police said the medical examiner office in Norfolk was contacted and responded to the scene. The body will be transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Norfolk for an autopsy. 

A vehicle belonging to Clarke is missing from the residence, the release stated, adding that investigators are trying to locate a 2006 Silver Toyota Avalon. The car has the Virginia license plate 1248 MN.
