A two-vehicle crash the morning of Sept. 19 on Southampton Parkway in Drewryville led to injuries, with a driver being airlifted to a trauma center for medical treatment.

A Southampton County Sheriff’s Office press release stated that at approximately 9:53 a.m., deputies responded to a two-vehicle crash with injuries in the 7000 block of Southampton Parkway in the eastbound lane.

“Deputies investigated the crash and determined that a 2019 Ford pickup truck had rear-ended a 2019 Hyundai sedan,” officials said in the release. “The driver and only occupant of the Hyundai was transported by helicopter for medical treatment.”

The sheriff’s office release stated that the driver of the pickup truck, Southgate Lee, 71, was issued a summons for allegedly following too closely.

Drewryville Volunteer Fire Department reported on its Facebook page that its Rescue 70 vehicle responded to the incident within minutes, followed by the department’s Engine 71, and arrived at the scene of the crash to find two vehicles with major damage and a patient trapped in a vehicle.

“Crews from Rescue 70, Engine 71 and Capron Heavy Rescue 37 began extricating a stable patient via a full roof removal of a car to turn the patient over to Medic 35 awaiting,” officials said in the DVFD Facebook post. “Boykins Medic 16 was dispatched for a second patient. Crews extricated one patient who was treated and then flown by LifeEvac to a trauma center.”

The sheriff’s office release concluded by noting that all lanes of Southampton Parkway were closed at various times for approximately one hour Sept. 19.
