ATLANTA, Georgia – She fought a good fight, she kept the faith…On Thursday, Sept. 9, 2021, Mrs. Mable Picot-Johnson, 63, of Atlanta, Georgia, departed this life quietly at St. Mary’s Hospital in Richmond, Virginia. She was the daughter of the late Mable Myrick Picot and Roy Picot Jr. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Christopher Ray Picot.

Mable attended Franklin City Public Schools and she was a graduate of Franklin High School, Class of 1977. Mable touched many lives throughout her community. She was an “AWESOME” seamstress. She was always willing to cut material and put her talents to the sewing machine. She had a special love for her family especially her nephews, Myron, Marcus, LaRon, M.D. and Bre. She truly loved these guys and constantly spoke about them and wanted the best for each one of them.

Mable leaves to cherish her many sweet precious memories: her loving son, Michael J. Chatman Jr. (whom she loved dearly); five awesome grandchildren, Imani Chatman, Jordan Chatman, Micah Shepard, Natalia Chatman and Justice Chatman; a great-granddaughter, Nia Ranaè Harper; two goddaughters, Tymeka Blick and Latora Cason; special daughters-in-law, Dale Owens Chatman and Wendy D. Chatman; four brothers, Victor Picot, Forrest Picot, Gerome Powell and Lorenzo Barnes (Coreena); four sisters, Jacqueline Picot Griffey, Evelyn Picot Barr (Anthony), Gail Giles (Willie) and Debra Jean Futrell; 10 nephews, Myron Picot, Marcus (Latasha), LaRon (Charity), Morris Jr. (Quasha), Breon Tae (Vickie), Lamont Smith, Nathaniel Pittman, Lorenzo Jr. and LoRon Barnes; three nieces, Nichole Smith, Shavon Ruffin and LaQuita Barnes; 11 great nephews; 12 great nieces; a special brother-in-law, Morris Duck Sr.; devoted friends, Ms. Mary Britt, Mr. Jesse Whitehead and Mr. Ernest Bowers; and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.

Mable was a die-hard Dallas Cowboys fan and she always stood up for her team win or lose. She made friends in any room she stepped in because of her warm heart and beautiful smile.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 18 in New Hope Baptist Church, 1315 Rosewood Avenue, Franklin with Rev. Dr. Anthony Goodwyn, pastor, Apostle Dr. Stephanie D. Edwards, eulogist and the Rev. Anthony Rawling, officiating.

Viewing for Ms. Johnson will be held from noon to 8 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 17 in Engram Funeral Home Inc., 1001 Armory Drive in Franklin.
