Franklin City Public Schools welcomes back students with carnival

Approximately 400 Franklin City Public Schools students and their families accepted the invitation and braved the heat to participate in the Back-to-School Carnival on Aug. 27 at Armory Field.
An FCPS news release continued by noting that following registration at the front gate, the guests were able to visit with several school system partners, which had set up tents and provided information pertaining to their services or products. For example, Sgt. Scott Halverson represented the Franklin City Police Department at a tent, and just a short distance away from there were members of the Western Tidewater Health District at another tent.
Arts and crafts, games, bounce houses, music and a dunking booth were part of the fun. On the tennis courts, the line was long for refreshing and colorful sno-cones and next to it, popcorn. Meals were handed out at the concession stand.
Both the Franklin Marching Broncos and cheerleaders demonstrated their musical and coordinated skills on the fields. They will be present when the football team takes to the field at 5 p.m. Sept. 6.

S.P. Morton Elementary School, J.P. King Jr. Middle School and Franklin High School handed out satchels containing school supplies at the carnival. Sept. 1 will be the first day of classes.
FCPS expressed gratitude to the many volunteers who made the Back-to-School Carnival a success. The school division was particularly thankful to the partners that provided school supplies for the occasion: Walmart — Franklin, Pepsi, of Suffolk, and the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore.
Other partners included STOP Inc., LEVOC Family Services, Blackwater Regional Library, The Salvation Army, Franklin City Councilman Dr. Linwood William Johnson III, City of Franklin Parks and Recreation, Smart Beginnings Western Tidewater, James L. Camp Jr. Family YMCA, AGAPE Counseling, Image Affirmed, ChildCare Aware of Virginia, BHG Recovery, Walmart — Franklin, Pepsi, Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore and the nutrition, transportation and gifted and exceptional education departments.
