Southampton County Public Schools (SCPS) is inviting people in the area to join its Virtual Job Fair, which will be held from 8:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. on July 27-29.

“If you want to become a teacher and hold a bachelor’s degree or higher or plan to finish one in the near future, we want to talk with you,” Cassandra Galindo, SCPS human resources and marketing specialist, said in a school division news release.

“Many individuals do not realize our district provides guidance and assistance with obtaining state teacher licensure,” Human Resources and Marketing Assistant Shameka Key added in the release. “Individuals who hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited university are often eligible to work with our district as a provisional teacher. The best part? Once approved, they can teach and hold the provisional license for three years while working to complete their individual requirements needed for a professional license.”

SCPS is mainly using the Virtual Job Fair to hire those interested in teaching English, math, history, science and elementary, as well as guidance counselors. The district is also seeking candidates who work in the field of business, information technology, architecture, nursing and robotics to fill their specialized career and technology education (CTE) vacancies.

“As part of our new incentive plan, teachers who will teach in the identified critical shortage areas, which includes most of our CTE vacancies, are eligible to earn a sign-on bonus,” Interim Director of Human Resource and Marketing Debra Hicks said in the release. “SCPS offers a $1,500 bonus for teachers who are eligible for a certification and a $3,000 bonus for certified teachers in critical areas.”

Applicants should fill out an application online at www.applitrack.com/southampton/onlineapp to register for this event. Once the application is submitted, a member of the division’s human resources department will reach out by phone to schedule an interview.

“Even though it will be held virtually, applicants should plan to dress professionally and give their best first impression at our job fair,” Hicks said in the release.

Those with questions about the event or about requirements needed to become a teacher are encouraged to call 757-653-2692.
