The Southampton County Sheriff’s Office responded to a two-vehicle accident on Southampton Parkway in Drewryville that involved a fatality June 28.

In a press release, the sheriff’s office stated it received the call regarding the crash at 12:13 p.m. Once on scene, deputies determined that a gray 2001 Toyota Camry occupied by one adult male traveled through the median at the intersection of Route 58 and Drewry Road in an attempt to turn left onto Route 58 East. At that time, the Camry collided with a gray 2020 Jeep Wrangler occupied by two adult females and one juvenile female.

The sheriff’s office stated the driver of the Camry was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead immediately. All three passengers of the Jeep had been flown to Norfolk with serious injuries.

The accident remains under investigation, and more details may be released as they are available.

Route 58 East and West had both been reduced to one lane, and the lane closures were expected to last until around 4 p.m. On its Facebook page, the sheriff’s office noted at 4:24 p.m. that all lanes of Route 58 through Drewryville were back open.

Responding to the scene of the accident in addition to the Southampton County Sheriff’s Office were the Virginia State Police, Drewryville Volunteer Fire Department, Capron Volunteer Fire Department, Capron Rescue, Courtland Volunteer Rescue Squad and the Virginia Department of Transportation.
