Southampton baseball, Franklin boys soccer advance in regionals

Southampton High School’s varsity baseball team and Franklin High School’s varsity boys soccer team tasted victory June 14 in their regional openers, while Southampton varsity boys soccer was eliminated in its quarterfinal game.

The No. 3-seeded Indians baseball squad topped No. 6 Park View High School 7-1 in the Region 3A Tournament quarterfinals to advance to a June 16 semifinal showdown with No. 2 Colonial Heights High School at Shepherd Stadium in Colonial Heights. The game is set to start at 6 p.m.

The No. 2 Broncos boys soccer team edged No. 3 Central Lunenburg High School 5-4 in the Region 1B Tournament semifinals, advancing Franklin to a battle with No. 1 Appomattox Regional Governor’s School for the regional title on June 16 at Richard Bland College in Petersburg. The game is set to begin at 6 p.m.

Southampton’s No. 5-seeded boys soccer squad fell 8-1 to No. 4 Tabb High School in the Region 3A Tournament quarterfinals.

The Lady Indians softball team, holding the sixth seed in the Region 3A tourney, was set to visit No. 3 Tabb on June 15 at 4 p.m.
