CARROLLTON
A Virginia Department of Transportation project to improve the intersection at Route 17/Carrollton Blvd. and Route 258/Brewer’s Neck Blvd. in Isle of Wight County is currently under construction, a VDOT news release stated.
Construction began earlier this month after Henry S. Branscome LLC was awarded the $3.25 million construction contract to improve safety at the intersection.
The project will include the addition of one new left turn lane on Route 17 south entering the James River Crossings development, one additional left turn lane on Route 17 north onto Route 258 westbound, and one new through lane on Route 258 east entering the James River Crossings development. Traffic signalization improvements, roadway elevation adjustments to improve drainage and intersection paving will also be completed.
Throughout the duration of the project, motorists can primarily expect single-lane, weekday lane and shoulder closures on Route 17 and Route 258. Night work is also permitted when required.
VDOT stated motorists will be advised of additional closures and detour information that may occur during the project.
The estimated completion date is fall 2022, and all construction work is dependent upon weather conditions.
