To the Editor:

The bell of Thomas Memorial Baptist Church in Drewryville will be rung at 3 p.m. on Memorial Day, May 31, in commemoration of The National Moment of Remembrance.

On May 31,1999, former President Bill Clinton said, “As we contemplate the comforts and blessings of our lives and well-being of our nation, I ask you to pause just for a moment to remember those who gave their lives to protect the values that give meaning to our lives.” On Dec. 28, 2000, he signed a bill designating 3 p.m. local time each Memorial Day as The National Moment of Remembrance.

Please pause at 3 p.m. on Memorial Day to reflect and honor those men and women from all wars who have died in service to our country.

U.S. flags will be placed on the graves of the veterans buried in the Drewryville cemetery and flags will be flown along the street. These activities are projects of the GFWC Drewryville Woman’s Club.

Thank you to Jennifer Johnson for having the church bell rung and to the Drewryville Volunteer Fire Department for placing the flags along the street.
