FRANKLIN – George Lee Story Jr., 70, passed away March 28, 2021 in his home. Born and raised in Franklin, he was a son of the late George Lee Story Sr. and Ruby Gardner Story. George was also predeceased by a sister, Mary Ellen Griffin.

George was a boiler operator on No. 6 recovery boiler for International Paper with 38 years of service. After his retirement he worked for Isle of Wight Forest Products in Wakefield until Sept. 8, 2020. George was a charter member and former president of the Southampton Coon Hunters Club and enjoyed coon hunting and rabbit hunting. He grew up in Franklin Baptist Church.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 46 years, Virginia Cutchins Story; two daughters, Janelle Story and Dana Story; a sister, Faye Story; two brothers, Nelson G. Story and Hunter K. Story (Donna); five grandchildren, Matthew Collin Futrell, Christopher Story, Kaylan Leann Johnson (Scott Dixon), Brianna Kelsey Johnson (Davey Tyree) and Joshua Frank Johnson; a great-grandchild, Preston Cole Keeter; and a special aunt and fishing buddy, Millie C. Baccus.

The family would like to thank Heartland Hospice and his special nurse, Melanie Marshall for their wonderful care.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, April 1, at Wright Funeral Home with Mr. Lee “Kim” Hooker officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
