The village of Drewryville hosted a community trash pickup day over the weekend, which drew more than 30 participants. The group collected upwards of 50 bags of trash and about 20 tires.
The group covered stretches of Old Belfield Road from the Deerfield Correctional Center to Applewhite Swamp Hunt Club, Fortsville Road to the railroad tracks, U.S. Route 58 coming back toward the village and the Fortsville/Old Belfield intersection toward Rivers Mill.
“I just got sick of looking at the trash on my drive into work; it’s so depressing,” said Ashley Davis, who organized the event with Jennifer Johnson. “The county loans out the supplies needed for folks that would like to put together something like this.”
“I hope this will encourage others,” Davis added. “The roads are awful and this only puts a dent in it.”
